Validate and open an XRechnung, ZUGFeRD or Factur-X e-invoice

Upload an XRechnung, UBL or CII XML file, or a Factur-X or ZUGFeRD PDF, to run a technical validation of the invoice data. A valid invoice is also shown readably: seller, buyer, lines, VAT, totals and bank details. The report does not replace legal or tax advice.

Last reviewed:

Factur-X/ZUGFeRD PDF or XRechnung/UBL/CII XML, maximum 2 MiB.

Checking your e-invoice… this can take a few seconds.

How does the e-invoice test work?

The file is uploaded over TLS and checked against the EN 16931 rules and the XRechnung or Factur-X/ZUGFeRD rules that apply to it. The tool returns a plain-language technical report and, for a valid invoice, its content. Peppol BIS and NLCIUS invoices are checked against the EN 16931 rules only, not their own extra rules.

What does the validator check?

For a PDF it checks the hybrid PDF, the embedded invoice XML and the technical profile. For an XML file it checks the invoice data and its profile, such as XRechnung. Findings are grouped as errors, warnings and notices. An ordinary PDF without embedded invoice XML receives an invalid result.

How should you read the report?

Valid means the file passed the validator rules used by this tool. Invalid means a technical error or missing embedded invoice data was found. Warnings and notices can still require review.

What validation cannot guarantee

The result does not guarantee legal or tax compliance, receiver acceptance, authenticity, authority to issue the invoice or payment. Country rules, reporting channels, contracts and recipient platforms can add requirements.

How is the uploaded invoice handled?

The file is processed transiently on our server in Germany. It is not added to an account, database or object storage. Temporary files are deleted immediately after the check. Standard server logs contain request metadata, not the body or filename.

E-invoice validator questions

What files can I test?

The public tool accepts Factur-X or ZUGFeRD hybrid PDFs and pure XML e-invoices (XRechnung, UBL or CII, including Peppol BIS), up to 2 MiB. A valid invoice is also shown readably. An ordinary PDF without embedded e-invoice data receives an invalid result.

Does a valid report guarantee legal compliance?

No. A valid report confirms only that the tested file passed the validator rules used by this tool. Tax law, contractual requirements and a recipient’s platform can impose additional rules.

What is the difference between XRechnung, ZUGFeRD and Factur-X?

XRechnung is a pure XML format, the German specification of EN 16931. ZUGFeRD and Factur-X are the German and French names for one hybrid format: a readable PDF with the structured invoice data embedded. The profile in use still matters for validation and exchange.

Do you store the uploaded invoice?

No. The file is processed only for this validation, is not added to an account or stored in the database or document storage, and temporary files are deleted after the check. Standard server logs contain request metadata, not the invoice body or filename.

Can I upload a confidential invoice?

Invoices often contain personal, address and bank data. The file is transmitted to our server over TLS for validation; do not upload it if you are not authorised to send that data to this service.
